At the request of the EU Commission and EU Consumer Authorities, five industry-leading car rental companies (Avis, Europcar, Enterprise, Hertz and Sixt) have undertaken to start presenting their car rental prices in a clearer manner.
In the review made at the beginning of the year, it was found that Avis, Europcar, Enterprise, Hertz and Sixt had failed to fulfil their commitments sufficiently and therefore the Commission and the Consumer Authorities considered their practice to be contrary to consumer law. In the assessment published in 25.3.2019, it is stated that Enterprise and Sixt have made all necessary changes. Avis has pledged to implement the remaining amendments before June, Europcar and its subsidiary Goldcar in June and Hertz have undertaken by March 2020 at the latest.
The companies have promised to:
• All costs must be included in the total booking price. The price must include all additional costs.
• The rental services should be clearly described in the terms and conditions in all national languages.
• It should clearly state what any options cost and include, especially when it comes to deductible deductions.
