Check out the materials from Media Literacy Week!

Media Literacy Week will take place from February 10 to 16, 2025. This themed week focuses on enhancing media skills and strengthening adults’ competence in media education. The European Consumer Centre Finland is also participating – the recently published easy-language section (in Finnish and Swedish) on our website is part of the Media Literacy Week materials and is also suitable for young people who are not yet familiar with consumer rights.

The theme of Media Literacy Week 2025 is sustainable development and ecological media education. The role of media education is particularly important at a time when climate change and biodiversity loss are pressing challenges. Ecological media education is linked to various media phenomena, such as the development of artificial intelligence and digital ecosystems, as well as the commercial structures of social media, how algorithms work, and the power relations associated with them. Sustainable development can also be considered from the perspective of social sustainability. During the themed week, various events will be organized, and content will be created to address both sustainable development and other aspects of media literacy for different age groups.

Media Literacy Week is held annually during the second week of February throughout Finland through various campaigns, events, and activities. The National Audiovisual Institute is in charge of coordinating the theme week in collaboration with dozens of national organizations. Participants include government agencies, organizations, associations, companies, projects, cultural institutions, and media representatives. Additionally, Media Literacy Week is part of the international Safer Internet Day campaign.
