There are lots of difficult situations any traveller may encounter during a journey abroad: picking up a rental car that is more expensive than agreed, finding out that a hotel room booked from home is unavailable or buying an item that becomes defective shortly afterwards. For smoother detection and avoidance of these and other common problems encountered by travellers, the European Consumer Centres Network has developed a free ECC-Net Travel mobile app for consumers. The application works without a network connection to avoid roaming charges.
When on holiday, we always want to avoid stress. That’s why the ECC-Net Travel is easy to use mobile application that functions either in smart phone or in tablet. It offers a variety of solutions to several problems consumers might encounter while vacationing in Europe. For each type of situation, the app not only informs you whether you are entitled to claim your rights but also how to express them in 25 different languages.
How does the ECC-Net Travel App work?
The ECC-Net: Travel app was originally released in summer 2014 and has now been updated. The app is available for mobile devices with iOS, Android and Microsoft Windows operating systems and it can be downloaded in main app stores or through QR code:
- Apple App Store (iOS),
- Google Playstore (Android),
- Windows application store (Windows Phone),
- QR-code.
After selecting your own country, and the destination country as well as the type of situation (travel, car rental, hotel…), the app will not only specify your consumer rights, but it will also enable you to present them to your counterpart in his or her own language.*
The new “Good to Know” help section offers relevant phone numbers and contacts details of every local European Consumer Centre as well as local embassies for any emergencies.
There is a European Consumer Centre in every EU member state as well as in Norway and Iceland offering free consumer help and advice. The ECC-Net Travel application is an initiative of the whole network.
