The European Consumer Centre Finland has expanded the easy language section of its website – information on the rights of online shoppers and air travellers is now also available in Eesy Swedish. This section offers easily understandable information on key consumer rights and the free advisory services provided by the European Consumer Centre. The easy-to-understand content is specifically aimed at those for whom standard language may be too challenging, such as elderly people, immigrants learning Finnish or Swedish, and individuals with cognitive challenges.
The topics covered in the website content are based on the issues consumers most frequently contact the European Consumer Centre about. The online shopping section explains, for example, consumer rights to cancel purchases, the responsibility of traders, and secure payment methods.
The air travel section discusses passenger rights in typical problem situations, such as flight cancellations or delays. Additionally, the content introduces the services of the European Consumer Centre and provides guidance on cross-border consumer issues.
The goal of the easy-to-understand content is to improve accessibility to information and promote equality. By providing consumers with clear and comprehensible information, they can make better decisions and more effectively exercise their rights.
The Easy Swedish section is available on the European Consumer Centre’s website at ecc.fi/sv/lattlast. It can also be accessed through the language menu on the website.
The Easy Finnish section is available at ecc.fi/selkokieli.
